Using VLC to find encoding type, bitrate info and logs


The following is useful when debugging issues for a particular stream, it gives you an idea about the bitrate and helps you to check if the encoding used is compatible for example in case the camera is set to use h265 encoding or some unsupported audio.

-Open the stream as usual in VLC
-go to tools->codec information
You will see the encoding for video and audio (if present)

-on the statistics page you can see the approximate bitrate (2034 kbps)

To see the completele log, go to tools->messages
-select verbosity 2 (debug)
-connect to the stream and check how the camera behaves
